PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Anakin is a young man in his physical prime and not terribly introspective on this point: if strength and youth are now, then they may as well be forever, and their transience escapes him. For the moment, he’s a tall, limber specimen, an inch or two over six feet tall and built along the lines of an almost-lifelong martial artist: he’s sturdy and flexible, with a great deal of well-rounded strength. He has pretty, rebel-without-a-cause features, with boyband bone structure, long eyelashes, and a mouth given to a pouty twist. His hair is ashy brown-blonde and given to shaggy untidiness and his eyes are an unremarkable gray-blue. He has fair skin with a light tan. His most distinguishing feature is his prosthetic right arm, made of skeletal metal and attached just above the elbow; he also sports a shallow scar over his right eye.

He dresses in black and brown Jedi robes, which are monastic and multilayered and suited to combat. If given the option, these are all he wears, in accordance with tradition; otherwise, he still favors dark colors, but has a tendency to embellish a little on style, though accessories aren’t terribly Jedi. He carries himself with trained serenity and a sureness to his movements that belies the rest of his temperament. However, he can devolve into restlessness and pacing if anxious or given too little to do.

HISTORY: Anakin Skywalker was born on the planet of Tatooine to the slave Shmi Skywalker and no apparent father. He grew up in slavery in the spaceport Mos Espa, owned since early childhood by the Toydarian merchant Watto. His childhood was generally one of labor and use, although his mother did her best to protect him from the worst of it; he befriended fellow slave children and, in short enough time, started to dream of being a pilot. By salvaging scrap, he managed to build himself a craft and take up the sport of pod racing by the age of nine. This eventually won him his freedom when the Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi, along with then-Queen Padme Amidala of Naboo, were forced to land on Tatooine and Qui-Gon immediately sensed great Force potential in young Anakin. Anakin was taken away with the intention of becoming Qui-Gon’s Padawan apprentice; Shmi was not freed. In the ensuing events, however, Qui-Gon was killed and young Obi-Wan took Anakin as a learner instead, as his master’s dying wish. The elders of the Jedi Council, especially Mace Windu and Yoda, were apprehensive about Anakin’s apprenticeship--seeing him as too old for tradition, and sensing great dark potential in him--but Obi-Wan successfully argued to admit him as a nontraditional Padawan.

Anakin then spent some nine or ten years under Obi-Wan’s tutelage, learning the ways of the Force as well as the faith and philosophy of the Jedi. The two of them overcame initial awkwardness to form a very close familial bond over the course of Anakin’s training. In Anakin’s young adulthood, he became re-acquainted with Padme Amidala, now a Senator, and quickly developed strong feelings for her which she was initially hesitant about reciprocating; after spending time and encountering danger together, however, she fell in love with him as well and the two of them had a secret wedding on Naboo, though not until Anakin lost his biological arm in a duel at the beginning of the Clone Wars. Now with the Clone Wars raging for several years, Anakin is a Jedi Knight eager to prove himself and put an end to this galactic war. He has very recently come face to face with some very unpleasant revelations.

PERSONALITY: Anakin is a coiled spring, a well of potential energy--of things waiting to happen, good or bad. Fired with youth and adrenaline and sometimes-blind conviction, he’s much more hotheaded than levelheaded, much more dynamic than stable; his heart drives him more surely than his head. This would be less of a problem if he had a steadier heart. But he’s a volatile person as well as well as a worryingly changeable one. He’s ruled by his feelings and his feelings are unusually intense. He’s reckless and very sincere, a seemingly simple and impulsive and lighthearted young man with waters that run fairly deep. There’s a gap in him where the cornerstone of his emotional stability should be: the product of some nature and a great deal of traumatic upheaval, between the life imposed upon him as a slave and the life thrust upon him as a Jedi. This is at odds with the philosophy and lifestyle imparted to him by his order and his master; he tries to live a life of serenity and acceptance while feeling anything but. And his commitment to his life as a Jedi Knight is utterly wholehearted, if deeply imperfect and now riddled with lies. In fact, almost everything he does is wholehearted. It results in something of a fractured heart. Still, he tries, however ego and impulse and anger might get the better of him.

As a person moving through the world, he’s charming and even dashing in his immature way--he has the half-brazen, half-flip quality that lends itself to day-to-day heroics, a bit of devil-may-care attitude salting his trained warrior-monastic approach. He acts quickly and decisively (often without thinking at all, according to his master) but this maddeningly works out for him more often than not, which just validates the behavior. Anakin is relatively extroverted and takes a genuine, if often somewhat superficial, interest in other people; he otherwise has a tendency to strongarm them into casual friendship and/or going along with what he’s doing, if he can manage it. He is not a cerebral person. He likes fun. He thinks other people secretly like fun too, under a certain definition. It is his benevolent self-imposed duty to help them realize their potential. Especially if they are Obi-Wan Kenobi. He’s given to stupid stunts to impress people whose opinion he craves, and this can be quite a variety of people under the right circumstances; he rarely takes no for an answer, including under circumstances in which a sensitive grown-up adult should probably take no for an answer.

Overall, Anakin has a lot of conflicting wants and needs--he wants acceptance and love, and he wants status and success. He wants a family, and he wants his master’s approval. He wants the life of a Jedi and he wants the life of a hero. Probably more than anything, he wants validation: validation of himself, of his existence, of everything he believes and has done. Anakin wants easy answers. Moreover, he wants to live in a world of easy answers. Unfortunately the universe has not reshaped itself to his desires in this or any respect. He is possessed of a brutal and volcanic temper which is more difficult to rouse than one might think; he is also possessed of an incredible capacity for unthinking self-sacrifice. Where he loves, he loves deeply, and is easily deeply disappointed, which is not always safe for anyone involved. The Dark Side is very strong in him already, but circumstances have conspired to make him aware of it, possibly in time to be averted: then again, possibly not. It’s hard to say what things in Anakin Skywalker have already been set in motion.

ABILITIES: Anakin is a powerful Force user and formidable young warrior, with an exceptional Force sensitivity born from his apparent status as the “Chosen One” of Jedi legend. He’s skilled in combat with a lightsaber and has enhanced athletic and acrobatic ability due to his powers, as well as the limited telekinesis and brainwashing that the Force also confers upon its users and a crude extrasensory and precognitive ability. One of his hands has been replaced with a durable metal prosthetic hand. In addition to this, he is an experienced pilot and mechanic and a quick learner in operating a vehicle.

POSSESSIONS: Anakin’s lightsaber, which he constructed himself as a Jedi apprentice.
